Abhi here...:) I'm so happy that i'm into Blogging (finally..!!) Its so wierd...i just wanted to try this...i m8 continue this if it continues to excite me.
Well...it was jus last year dat i came 2 kno dat my star (in actuality) is Betelguese (pronounced 'betel-jooz') though i knew it oly according to the sanskrit terminology - Aardra! Being 'Abhilash' i decided to talk abo dis star - my star in my first ever Blog! :)
It was sumwher in october if i'm not wrong dat i'd been 2 Jawahar Planetarium, Bangalore wid a very spl person :) (that apart for a while...) it was den i got to kno Aardra was cald Betelgeuse n it's a part of d constellation - ORION! It's supposed to be d second most luminous star of dat constellation trailing Rigel! Betelgeuse is also cald Alpha Orionus (Rigel being Beta Orionus). That day onwards...Betelguese had a very special place in my heart! I started linking everything in me wid its characteristics! Lyk...my favt color bein red is coz Betelguese is a RED SUPERGIANT :) Though silly...i luvd it dat way :)
I den started researching abo d star...I wanted to know everything abo it:) I gotta kno abo d following stuff in d process:
* Betelguese is one of the most Brightest Stars...2 b precise it is 12th brightest in d night sky.
* It is also a very very huge planet...cums under type Mstar...meaning it is a Supergiant, A Red SuperGiant :)
* it is almost 300times as big as d Sun...Nw dats really MASSIVE...!! Its lyk...if it was in the place of d Sun in our very own Solar System...It'd've extended upto d Asteroid Belt...Or even til Jupiter !!
* Ther's sum peculiar feature of dis star...that its structure is variable...It's not d same always n ppl 'ven cum 2 ne conclusion as 2 y it happens dat way! Though sum ppl say its coz of d large size...d outer region of d star is hardly intact coz of gravity!!!
* Being dis luminous n massive...d star is stil very cool compared 2 our sun (lyk me ;)) lol...yeah...its 'jus' around 3500celsius.
* D temp of d star decides its color...wic's y its RED!
D excitement wid wic i googled all des facts...well..wish i'd it 4 everythin i do...:P I was happily telling every1 dat i found my star..dis dat etc...:) bt...d happiness is short-lived :( It was very difficult 4 me 2 digest dat fact! It din occur to me wen i was reading abo d star tho i knew abo d stellar evolution! D excitement din lemme think dat far! Yes...Betelguese is on its death bed :(:(:( (v can think of d tym-space fabric as d bed ;) )
Its very odd...since childhood v luk in2 d sky...d beautiful dark sky wid d twinkling stars...v try linkin sum stars...esp d famous 3 stars n get d ORION! n in dat esp d clearly distinguishable Red star..my star...Betelguese...N all of a sudden ders dis news...its gonna die...Hw can v complete d constellation? Shud der b a new definition 2 d constellation? Ll it b stil cald an orion wen it can no more resemble a hunter widout my star? :(
It's supposed to end in a type 2 supernova wic corresponds 2 core collapse n an immense explosion! its lyk al heavy elements occupy d internal region...as v move towards d surface v find lighter elements, hydrogen bein @ d outermost region.
Sum ppl even sed...since its dat far 4m earth, d supernova m8've already occured n it'l take tym til v can c dat 4m here...abo 700 light yrs away!! Thats even Pathetic...v cant even say gud bye 2 d star! Its lyk a close fren dyin sumwher out wher u cant go...u dunno..n wen u kno hez no more!! Complex thot! N d oder case of seeing its death is equally bad :(
Bt practically speaking...if @al ders ne link 2 astrology n astronomy (wic i blv der exists...n @least our Indian Astrology was strictly based on d stellar n planetary positions..) its a gud opportunity 2 verify dis part :) In dat case it shud definitely ve sum implications...sum changes/effects on me...if not me...atleast sum1 in future born wid d same star! or is it lyk aft its supernova...no1 can b considerd born wid dat star? D death also reflects death is always untimely...d supernova cud happen even tom or ne tym in another million yrs! Betelguese is infact jus 10 million yrs old...compared 2 our sun wic's 4.5 billion yrs old! Its early death can b linked 2 its Massive size. It sounds so humane. even among us its d very big ppl...d obese 1s hu r short-lived...Ex.Yukozhana :P (So stay slim n liv longer lyk our Sun ;) )
Finally...v can jus hope dis Supernova opens up new stories in d quest of our Universe...understanding of it! n I also wish d cosmic dust it releases makes way 4 a new STAR...:):) sumthin spl lyk OUR SUN :)
